What is Counseling?

I believe counseling is a personal and spiritual journey into self-exploration, self-awareness, and gaining a deeper understanding of the whole self through introspection. I believe we are inherently gifted with the answers we seek, but sometimes we need guidance on where to look. My role in your counseling process is to assist in guiding you on your healing journey in a safe, holistic, compassionate, non-judgmental environment. I cannot do your work for you! For change to occur, YOU must do the work between sessions to integrate the information learned in the therapeutic process. This process is an opportunity for healing, self-discovery, and growth. My theoretical orientation is offered through an Attachment-based, trauma informed lens with Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Mindful Self-Compassion, Motivational Interviewing, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy/Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. I am also trained in Attachment Focused Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR). I love working with clients to deepen their spiritual practice and connection with a power greater than ourselves, however and whoever you interpret that to be. I approach each client from a holistic, integrative, and mindful perspective. In an effort to reinforce your therapeutic work and seek further self-exploration, I may ask you to do ‘self-work’ between sessions.

All information disclosed within our counseling sessions, and any written records generated from those sessions, are confidential and may not be revealed to anyone without your written permission. There are exceptions to confidentiality, where disclosure of certain information is required by law. We will discuss this in more detail during our intake appointment.

Like healing, the process of counseling does not come with any guarantees of a cure. What I can pledge is my commitment to offer you safe, positive support and guidance on your healing journey, and treat you with care and compassion during this process. My ultimate goal is to respect your autonomy, integrity, and authenticity in a professional, therapeutic relationship.

Sometimes the bad things that happen in our lives put us directly on the path that will lead us to the best things yet to come.”
